Man charged for allegedly shooting son with BB gun

HOUSTON

Michael Lee Cornelius is charged with injury to a child. According to court documents, Cornelius' ex-wife came home May 27 to find visible welts on the couple's 10-year-old son. The boy said he and Cornelius were shooting a BB gun in his father's backyard when Cornelius asked his son to stand at the fence so he could shoot the BB gun above his head. The boy began to run away and Cornelius shot a BB at his leg, court documents state.

Cornelius, 37, told investigators that he shot his son only after the boy shot him in the buttocks, and the son later admitted to shooting his dad.

Cornelius' bond has been set at $5,000.
