Columbus murder suspect arrested in Houston

HOUSTON, TX

Kyle Brent Johnson, 41, is charged with first-degree murder.

According to detectives, he shot 28-year-old Cotoya Annette Williams several times on May 26 after they got into a fight outside a home in the 1000 block of Back Street in Columbus.

She died from the gunshot wounds at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston.

Williams fled the scene, but investigators knew what he drove.

Houston police made a traffic stop on Johnson's vehicle, and then the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force was able to use that traffic stop to track Johnson to a home in the 5900 block of Shotwell in northeast Houston.

Johnson surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody around 9:30am Friday. He has since been transported to Colorado County Jail.
