Two injured in Katy area house fire

Fire broke out at a home on Park Orchard in the Katy area

Authorities are on the scene of a house fire in the Katy area where two people have been injured. The fire broke out shortly before 10am at a home in the 21000 block of Park Orchard. A neighbor walking his dog reportedly spotted the fire and grabbed a ladder to try to help rescue a girl trapped on the second floor.

According to the West 10 volunteer fire department, one person managed to escape from the home before firefighters arrived. The trapped girl was rescued through a window on the second floor.

Two victims were taken to area hospitals -- one transported via Life Flight. Their conditions are unknown. A family friend at the scene tells Eyewitness News the victims are mother and daughter.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
