Red light camera study show accidents down

Accidents at Houston intersections that have red light cameras have decreased 16 percent since the city stopped issuing tickets. That's according to a new study published in the Houston Chronicle. The numbers came as a surprise to police, since raw data shows that red light running increased after Houstonians voted to stop the surveillance system.

Red light opponents say the study proves that the cameras don't improve safety, but police say it's also possible the drought has led to dry roads and safer conditions.
