Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Brandon Love says the boy's parents and 3-month-old sister and the 16-year-old driver of the other vehicle had minor or no injuries.
Love tells the Tyler Morning Telegraph that the toddler was in a child safety seat when the teen's vehicle crossed onto the wrong side of a highway near Gilmer, about 120 miles east of Dallas. Love says metal tore away from the roof of the family's car and struck the boy in the forehead.
The trooper says the teenage driver may have fallen asleep.
