Houston-born astronaut talks with local students
HOUSTON
/*Shannon Walker*/ visited with students at Johnston Middle School. Walker also met with students from Parker Elementary and Westbury High schools which she also attended. Walker spoke about her trip to the International Space Station last year and what it took to become an astronaut.
"Well hopefully they'll be inspired by my story that somebody can come from rank and file in Houston and Houston public schools and go on to do great things. But failing that, I tell kids always you gotta dream big dreams and you gotta follow them and work hard to achieve those dreams," Walker said.
Two Johnston students won a trip to Kennedy Space Center to present a research report at the NASA Explorer Schools National Symposium later this month.
