An empty 7-story building collapsed due to poor construction in southern Turkey but there were no casualties, the city's mayor said. The building came down in the southern city of Malatya, said Hanefi Acer, the city's firefighter chief. Acer told NTV television that the building had already been evacuated but at least two businesses were operating under it.

Mayor Ahmet Cakir told NTV that an initial search of the debris revealed that there were no casualties.

There have been a number of building collapses in Turkey, where strict building codes are not always properly implemented.
