Woman dies in NW Houston house fire

HOUSTON The Houston Fire Department says when crews arrived at the home in the 9100 block of Friendship Road shortly before 4am Monday, they found heavy fire showing from the front of the house and smoke pouring from the windows. Initially, firefighters had a difficult time getting into the house from either the front or the back door. Firefighters say the home had a lot of furniture and it made it difficult to knock down the fire.

Emergency crews rescued a woman and performed CPR before rushing her to the hospital. She later died from her injuries.

Another resident, who was alerted by a smoke detector, was transported to the hospital with a minor injury to his foot.

HFD says the fire was tapped out at 5:43am.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by HFD Arson Investigators.
