Security guard fatally shot outside sports bar

HOUSTON Angue Nguyen said, "It's terrible, it's terrible."

Nguyen says she saw the victim Sunday. She works next door to the sports bar where authorities say the shooting happened.

According to Houston police, the victim worked as a security guard at the sports bar and was at work about 9pm Sunday. Authorities say a man tried to enter the club and allegedly argued with the security guard then shot at the guard at least five times, striking him at least twice.

The shooting happening outside the club, in front of several surveillance cameras. Sadly, police say the victim has just gotten off the phone with his wife.

HPD Homicide Officer JC Padilla said, "When she got off the phone she said he told her he was here, that he was fine and he didn't have any problems with anyone. She described him as happy."

A similar description is also given by the victim's neighbors.

"He was a hard-working man. He worked all the time. He just was very quiet, mowed his lawn and said hello and went on his way," recalled neighbor Elizabeth Patterson. "Very sad."

Authorities have not officially released the name of the victim. The suspect was seen driving away in a 1990s white Toyota 4-Runner with a Texas license plate ending in YRS. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
