A northwest Harris County family is homeless after an explosion and fire gutted their home. It happened around 9pm on Fieldglen near Van Lynn. When firefighters arrived the home was fully engulfed. Neighbors say they heard a loud bang and then ran outside and saw flames shooting from the roof of the home.

One person said they could see the flames from as far away as Fair Creek Park. The homeowners made it out safely and no one else was hurt. Neighbors say they could not believe how quickly the home burned.

"All I heard was like a big poof then I opened my window and I was like, 'Oh my gosh,'" said eyewitness Kayla Strong. "It was pretty bad, just real hot, real intense and a lot of fire."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
