The baby girl suffered no apparent wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined the baby girl was born alive and died of asphyxiation and exposure.
Police say investigation identified Angelica Huerta Clark, 21, as the mother of the newborn. On Friday she was arrested and charged with murder.
Ten years ago, the state of Texas adopted the Baby Moses Law which allows newborns to be left at fire or police stations or hospitals with no questions asked. The baby can be handed over anonymously, and will receive proper medical care.
