HPD officer injured in midtown crash

HOUSTON According to investigators, the crash happened on Almeda Rd. near Alabama around 10am.

The HPD officer was southbound on Almeda, headed to a scene with lights and sirens running, when a sports utility vehicle T-boned the HPD cruiser and pushed the officer's car into oncoming traffic.

The cruiser was hit by a second vehicle, and then it spun into a pole.

At the same time, the SUV hit another car.

Four vehicles were either damaged or totaled in the wreck. Two people, including the HPD officer, were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

It was unknown Saturday afternoon if anyone would be cited for the crash.

It was also unclear to what scene the officer was responding.
