Report of stolen vehicle takes bizarre twist

HOUSTON Just before 1pm, police received a 911 call from a man who said he stopped at a store in the 8600 block of Mesa, went into a store and someone stole his vehicle. The man told police his child was in the vehicle.

Police began searching throughout the northeast Houston neighborhood for a white Chevy Trailblazer with paper plates. As the investigation wore on, Eyewitness News has learned that the call was inaccurate.

We're told that a witness inside the business saw possible illegal activity in the vehicle in the parking lot with a child present. He reportedly called police, giving the original story, in the hopes of getting a faster response.

The child in question is apparently related to one of the suspects. His age is unclear, but he is said to be safe, possibly in the custody of his mother.
