West U residents get OK to build basements

WEST UNIVERSITY, TX

The West University City Council voted to allow basements despite strong opposition from the city's mayor, who argued the drainage required for a basement would pose a risk to the clay around the foundation.

One council member argued the city should not decide for property owners on whether they should build a basement.
