Hightower loses to Marcus 53-41 in 5A state semis

Marcus Smart had 11 points and nine rebounds to lead Lewisville Marcus' balanced attack in a 53-41 win over Fort Bend Hightower in the Class 5A state semifinals Friday.[SPORTS BLOG: Read the latest from the Eyewitness Sports team]

Phil Forte scored 14 points and Nick Banyard scored 10 for Lewisville Marcus (38-1), which lost in the semifinals last season.

Johnathan Jordan scored 18 points for Hightower (29-8), which shot just 33 percent, including 0-13 on 3-pointers in scoring its second-fewest points on the season.

Lewisville Marcus shot 51 percent and outrebounded Hightower 29-20 and had 16 assists to just one for Hightower.

Both teams got off to a slow start and Lewisville Marcus led 19-15 at halftime. The Marauders slowly stretched their lead in the second half and led by as much as 16 in the fourth quarter.
