Authorities shut down the northbound lanes of the Eastex Freeway for several hours due to a fatal accident. It happened around 2:30am on the freeway near the East Mount Houston exit. Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 13300 block of Highway 59 in reference to a vehicle that was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the freeway. Authorities say while they were en route to the area the wrong-way driver, Tyeisha Unique Branch, hit a second vehicle head-on killing the passenger of that vehicle, a 30-year-old female.

Branch was found to be intoxicated and was charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter. The driver of the other vehicle was identified as William Caas. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with injuries.
