Child dies after TV falls on her in NE Houston

HOUSTON The victim, Jessica Garcia, 2, was pronounced dead at Texas Children's Hospital.

Police say HFD paramedics were dispatched to a residence in the 9400 block of Opelika around 5:15pm Saturday in regards to an injured child. They were advised that a large television had been knocked over by the child, who was playing in the backyard. The TV fell on top of the child, causing blunt force trauma to her head. Paramedics transported the girl to the hospital where she died.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined the cause of the death was blunt force trauma to the child's head. It appears the injury was consistent with the television falling on the child's head.

No charges are being filed at this time.
