HISD receives state accreditation from TEA

HOUSTON That means the Texas Education Agency recognizes HISD as a public school district that meets the education commissioner's standards.

HISD's accreditation status had been pending since March, when the TEA decided to review the district's handling of problems at Key Middle School and Kashmere High School. They included allegations of cheating on the TAKS test and falsified student dropout records.

Both schools are now operating under new administrations.

HISD says its own investigations led to cases against educators which are pending before the state board for educator certification.
