Hundreds gain US citizenship in naturalization ceremony

HOUSTON About 1,500 new citizens from 112 countries and their families attended a naturalization ceremony this morning at the Mo Campbell Education Center on the north side of town. For some new citizens we spoke to, this was a day a long time in the making and one they will never forget.

"I came to this country as a student and my American dream has come true. This same afternoon I have an appointment with an Air Force recruiter to come in and hopefully be an officer and serve in the Armed Forces," said new U.S. citizen Joel Farietta.

Each new citizen is immediately eligible to register to vote. The League of Women Voters were there to help register the new citizens on the spot.
