Laura Recovery Center needs help with donations

HOUSTON Directors say the center's office in Friendswood may have to close next year if they don't get help. They use only donations to operate. Gay and Bob Smither founded the organization after their daughter Laura was kidnapped and killed in 1997. They say if the office closes, they'll have to operate out of their home.

They help search for about 150 children a year, and they play a lengthy role.

"To continue searching when the child is not found for the first few hours or the first week, the long term searching that is required to bring those children home," said Gay Smither.

Searches are done by volunteers. If you'd like to learn more, you can visit the Laura Recovery Center website.
