Firefighters busy battling different house fires

HOUSTON Investigators say the fire started around 11pm in an abandoned home on Southlea at Cherbourg. When firefighters arrived, the flames were too intense to enter, so the crews focused on stopping the spreading to neighboring houses.

The fire charred the outer wall of one home and burned the windows of another. No one got hurt.

Another fire in northeast Houston also kept crews busy. It was about 1:30am when heavy smoke started pouring out of a house on Sandy Oaks at Frazier. Firefighters were able to smother the flames before the fire spread beyond the front rooms. Both the man and woman living inside managed to escape safely.

Houston fire investigators believe an electrical problem inside a wall ignited the flames.
