Woman arrested for robbery of shopper

Maria Cervantes, 51, of Rosenberg, was arrested for the charge of aggravated robbery

A woman is under arrest, accused of robbing an older woman after a shopping trip, and there may be at least one other victim. According to Rosenberg police, a 78-year-old woman reported that a woman followed her home from the 99 Cent Store in the 2500 block of Avenue H. When the victim got home, she said she was approached in her driveway by a woman carrying a screwdriver and demanding her money. The victim gave the suspect a $20 bill and her coin purse.

The suspect fled the area, but police say they caught up to her a short time later near 2nd Street and Avenue D. Police have identified the suspect as Maria Cervantes, 51, of Rosenberg. She was arrested for the charge of aggravated robbery. Police say the victim's coin purse was recovered with Cervantes.

While being interviewed at the Rosenberg Police Department, Cervantes also reportedly admitted to committing a similar robbery on Monday, November 22 in the Walmart parking lot located in Richmond.
