Police: Houston man fatally shoots holiday visitor

HOUSTON Houston police spokesman Kese Smith said the man allegedly became belligerent about 2 a.m. Thursday and assaulted the homeowner, leading to a struggle. Smith said the homeowner removed the man and locked the door.

Smith told the Houston Chronicle the man stood outside yelling before allegedly breaking a front door window and reaching inside to unlock the door. Smith said the man ignored repeated warnings not to enter the home and was shot once in the chest after opening the door and charging toward the homeowner.

Smith said the case will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.
