Sugar Land releases drawings of future stadium

HOUSTON Last month, Sugar Land City Council approved a plan to build a professional minor league stadium in the northeast corner of State Highway 6 and Highway 59. The $30 million stadium will be funded with a portion of sales tax revenues that may only be used for economic development purposes. No general fund tax dollars will be spent on the stadium.

The Opening Day Partners, LLC will own and operate Sugar Land's baseball team and will be the owner of an Atlantic League expansion team in Sugar Land.

Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2011 to have the stadium ready for opening day in April 2012.

Architectural renderings have been prepared and are available at http://www.sugarlandtx.gov/sugarland/cultural_district/index.asp.
