Obama, Calderon talk after Mexican drug shootout

MUMBAI, India The White House says that Obama, who's traveling in India, spoke by telephone on Saturday with Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

On Friday, there was an hours-long gun battle in the border city of Matamoros that killed a cartel head, Antonio Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen, also known as "Tony the Storm."

Obama says the U.S. supports Mexico's efforts against organized criminal groups. The White House says Obama offered condolences on the death of Mexican armed forces in the operation as well as the death of a reporter who was covering the shootout.
