Suspect charged in Halloween house party shooting

HOUSTON Carlos Jesus Marquez was arrested Thursday in connection to the death of 17-year-old Loreal Bronte Castro during the early morning hours of October 30, according to a Houston Police Department statement.

Castro and another victim, 18-year-old Simon Romero, were sitting in a parked truck outside a Halloween house party in the 8200 block of Concord when the shooting occurred. Police say Marquez allegedly drove by and began firing gunshots at several vehicles parked outside the home.

Castro was shot in the back and was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Romero was shot in the arm, but he was treated and released from a hospital.

Marquez was identified as the suspect during a police investigation.
