HISD to cut summer school hours

HOUSTON HISD's Chief Academic Officer Chuck Morris said the budget for next year has been reduced from $24 million to $14 million. Summer school classes at elementary and middle schools will be held from 8am until noon. The hours for high school students will be flexible, from 8am to 5pm, with most of the courses offered online.

While HISD hopes to accommodate everyone interested in attending summer school, there is a priority list, just in case.

"We would start with those students who have not passed in math and in reading," said Morris.

He also said that students will have the chance to take part in tuition camp and other enrichment programs, but those may come with a fee.
