HFD installs smoke detectors in Houston-area homes

HOUSTON The Houston Fire Department met with volunteers from CenterPoint Energy in northwest Houston on Saturday.

Firefighters showed the volunteers how to install and test smoke detectors before heading into the neighborhood to distribute the detectors to low income families.

CenterPoint donated $20,000 to buy the smoke detectors.

We want to help improve lives of our Houston community, so this is one of the wonderful programs that we feel that really helps save lives and improve the quality of life," said Mary Kallina with CenterPoint Energy.

This is the fourth year in a row that CenterPoint and HFD have partnered for the "Get Alarmed Houston" campaign.
