Driver dies after car rolls, catches fire on North Freeway

HOUSTON Police say that witnesses reported a blue Pontiac was traveling southbound in the 1000 block of the North Freeway at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of lanes of traffic about 5:45pm Monday. The driver then struck the west side retaining wall, causing the vehicle to roll several times, and catch fire.

The driver was ejected during the roll over. No other persons or vehicles were involved in this accident.

The male victim, 23, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
