Police officer injured in car crash
HOUSTON
The accident happened near the southeast corner of the University of Houston main campus on Thursday afternoon.
K-9 Unit Sgt. S. Red was traveling southbound on Calhoun to respond to a call when a truck traveling westbound on Wheeler accidentally hit the gas in stead of the brakes at a red light. The truck plowed into the driver's door of the patrol car, sending it into a ditch.

Authorities at the scene said the Sgt. Red and the pickup driver were both "banged up" but specific conditions weren't known. Both drivers were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital.
The canine that was with the sergeant was taken to a vet to be checked out.
Sgt. Red has been on the force for about 27 years.
