Mom, teen son killed in wreck in NW Harris Co.

HOUSTON It happened yesterday at the intersection of North Gessner and Brookriver. Witnesses told deputies teens in a Chevy Tahoe and a pickup truck were racing down Gessner. That's when 37-year-old Mayra Castillo Torres pulled out from a stop sign and was hit by the Chevy Tahoe.

Torres and her 14-year-old son, Christopher Nuno, were both killed instantly. Investigators say the driver of the Tahoe could face several charges.

"They could be charged any numerous offenses, manslaughter, negligent homicide; it just depends on our reconstruction of our crash," Harris County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Susan Potter said.

Emergency crews airlifted the six-year-old girl to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigators say alcohol was not a factor. The driver and passenger of the Tahoe had only minor injuries.

Deputies say they're reconstructing the crash, and will decide whether charges will be filed after their investigation.
