Two arrested in strangulation of disabled woman

HOUSTON Officers arrested Emerson Handy and Laurie Jones on burglary charges. Officers say they stole items from the apartment of Debbie Boudreaux, 60, at Independence Hall in north Houston.

One week ago today, a caregiver found Boudreaux dead in her apartment at a complex that caters to the disabled and elderly. Police say as they investigated the crime scene, Handy was pawning the victim's belongings.

The pawn shop owner help lead them to the suspects.

"We recognized that they had taken the victim's ring from someone who sold it to them who pawned the ring and based on that, we were able to put together who the first suspect was and recover the ring," said C.P Abbey of HPD Homicide.

Officers found Jones at a homeless camp wearing Boudreaux's rosary beads. The suspects admit stealing the victim's items, but not killing her.

Handy remains jailed with no bond. Jones is homeless and has a $500,000 bond.
