Second suspect arrested in murder case

HOUSTON Gerald Lernard Porter, 24, was taken into custody on Tuesday. Porter and Herbert Goldsmith, 21, are charged with capital murder for the death of Christopher Jones. Jones, 29, suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene of a bedroom in the home.

A second male victim, 27, was found in the kitchen, also suffering a gunshot wound, and was taken to Ben Taub Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Further investigation developed information that identified Porter as a second suspect in this case. Another suspect, Goldsmith, was arrested September 14 following a vehicle pursuit with HPD, Harris County Precinct 3 deputy constables and Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies.
