Man arrested for taking girl from her home

HOUSTON Early in the morning a deputy was dispatched to an abduction call in the 3000 block of Garrow. Upon arrival the deputy was met by the mother of the child. The mother and her daughter explained to deputies that the young girl had earlier been picked up by a male as the she walked her dog near the family home.

Deputies said the man had offered the child gift cards and other items before driving away with her.

Harris County Precinct 6 Constable Victor Trevino said, "He wanted to befriend her, you know, by doing different things to benefit the little dog. He was just being strategic, a person definitely that did not have good intentions."

The man drove to several locations in the area and tried to befriend the girl for about an hour before returning her to a park located at 3001 Garrow.

Deputies were able to get a good description of the suspect and a license plate number from witnesses. They've identified the suspect as Christopher Anthony Marquez, 38.

Based on information linked to the plate number, deputies were able to locate Marquez at his residence in the 100 block of Nagle. As the deputies approached the suspect, they say he began to cut his wrists. Paramedics arrived to treat the suspect and he was eventually released to deputies.

Marquez was booked into the Harris County jail for enticing a child with the intent to kidnap, a third degree jail felony.

The child had a preliminary evaluation. It was determined there were no signs of assault. However, she will be further assessed.
