DPS: 1 million Texans register as donors

AUSTIN, TX The Department of Public Safety on Monday announced 1 million Texans have now signed up for the state's organ and tissue registry.

DPS says the Glenda P. Dawson Donate Life-Texas Registry is the state database of individuals who have agreed to donate organs, eyes and tissue for transplants.

DPS, the Department of State Health Services and the Department of Motor Vehicles participate in the registry, which also includes LifeGift, the Southwest Transplant Alliance and the Transplant Organ Sharing Alliance.

Residents can enroll online, or sign up at their local DPS office while applying for or renewing a driver's license or identification card.
