Infant dies after drowning in bathtub

HOUSTON It happened around 9pm Saturday at a home on South Gessner near Beechnut.

Police say the infant's mother reported she put her son in an infant bathtub and placed that bathtub inside a full-sized bathtub and turned on the water. She left the infant unattended for a short time to check on some food on the stove in the kitchen.

While she was away, the tub drain clogged and the tub began to fill with water. The infant fell off of its baby bathtub and into the tub filling with water.

Houston Fire Department personnel were able to revive the infant and transported him to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. The baby later died at the hospital.

Autopsy results are pending.
