Galveston warns swimmers of stingrays

GALVESTON, TX They responded to 16 stingray attacks over the past month. Even though that's pretty average for this time of year, the stingrays are coming a lot closer to shore than usual.

"They are always out there; it's just a little heightened because the water is flat, and they don't have the waves to keep them a little further out," Galveston Beach Patrol's Tony Pryor said.

The best way to avoid getting stung is to shuffle your feet when going into the water. That scares the stingrays away.

But if you do get attacked, the beach patrol says to put heat on the wound and head to a hospital.
