Houston man added to Most Wanted Fugitives list

HOUSTON Joel Burt Thompkins, 48, is wanted for capital murder and failure to register as a sex offender. The murder warrant is out of Harris County, and the failure to register warrant is out of Dallas County.

Thompkins is wanted in connection with the murder of a woman at the Luxor Apartments on June 4, 2010. The woman, who knew Thompkins, was beaten to death with a fire extinguisher and then stabbed. Her vehicle was stolen, but has since been recovered.

Thompkins goes by the nickname "Ghost," which is tattooed on the inside of his right arm. He also uses a large number of aliases. His criminal conviction history includes convictions for assault, robbery, burglary, possession of a controlled substance, possession of stolen property and tampering with evidence.

The public should not try to apprehend members of the Texas Top 10 Most Wanted, as these criminals are considered dangerous.

Authorities are offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

Anyone with information on Amador or the other most wanted sex offenders can provide anonymous tips by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-252-TIPS(8477) or by texting the letters DPS followed by your tip to 274637(CRIMES) from your cell phone. You can also submit a tip through the DPS website by selecting the sex offender you have information about, and clicking on the link under their picture to submit a web tip.
