Benefit held for fire captain injured in shooting

HOUSTON Friends and members of his community are coming together showing their support. They're backing him up as he has a long road to getting his life back to normal.

On Saturday, supporters came out to Coaches Sports Bar in Humble for a fundraiser for Senior Capt. Ricky Johnson.

Johnson was badly hurt in early May at a birthday party, when an angry neighbor shot at the party. He survived, but his medical bills are staggering.

"This benefit to us is a celebration of Ricky's life for the fact that he's here with us and that he survived because it truly is a miracle that he is with us," said his wife, Lisa Johnson.

A New Caney ISD teacher died in that shooting.
