Man charged in fatal hit-and-run accident

HOUSTON William F. Jones, 73, is charged with accident involving injury or death and driving while intoxicated. Jones was arrested in a fatal traffic accident in the 5800 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard about 10:25pm on July 30. Police say Jones was driving a brown GMC pickup truck southbound on Martin Luther King when he struck a pedestrian attempting to cross the street in a non-designated crosswalk. Jones continued without stopping.

Officers who were nearby heard a noise and witnessed the victim being struck. The officers then stopped the pickup further down Martin Luther King and took Jones into custody.

The female victim, 20, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital and later died. Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
