Councilman Johnson appears in court over traffic stop

HOUSTON Johnson showed up, but did not comment to the judge. His case is going to a grand jury and was reset for September 6.

A police officer said he tried to pull Johnson over for driving 62 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone. While Johnson says the officer overreacted, prosecutors say he told them he didn't pull over because what he was doing took priority. Johnson's attorney denies his client made the statement.

Johnson also claims the officer was overreacting and targeted him because he's a critic of speed traps in his district.

Johnson faces a felony charge of evading arrest.
