Gulf Freeway drunk driving suspect appears in court

HOUSTON Michael Gregory Petty, 28, was in court Wednesday for a probable cause hearing. He is charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter in the accident at 18900 Gulf Freeway around noon on Monday.

Police say Petty was seen driving a black Toyota pickup truck at a high rate of speed and dodging in and out of traffic. His vehicle struck the back of a gold Toyota pickup causing the gold pickup to roll over several times.

Manuel Portillo, 67, and Christo Alfonso, 55, were both killed in the incident.

The judge raised Petty's bond to $150,000 on Wednesday. Petty has an extensive criminal history including reckless driving, assault, burglary and criminal mischief.

Prosecutors allege Petty was impaired on prescription drugs at the time of the accident.
