MD Anderson tops list of best cancer hospitals

HOUSTON This is the fourth year straight year MD Anderson has ranked number one in the annual "best hospitals" survey done by US News and World Report. This is the seventh time in the last nine years it has landed in the top spot.

MD Anderson's President, Dr. John Mendelsohn, says there are good reasons why the hospital is among the nation's best.

"We work very hard to translate science into new therapies. So we have more clinical trials going on investigating new experimental treatments for cancer, if standard therapy fails, than anywhere else in the country and probably anywhere else in the world," said Dr. Mendelsoh.

Later this year, MD Anderson will open an additional 12 floors atop its hospital, adding some 300 more patient beds to the current complement of 500.
