The 'timings' of good deals

Waiting to buy something can save you big -- anywhere from 50 to 90 percent off! From patio furniture to electronics and groceries, here's a month-by-month list of what to buy and when.

BBQ pits are parked just outside the Home Depot, and all of them on sale. While most of the prices are 25 percent off, if you wait a few more weeks, you may score even bigger savings of 50 to 75 percent off.

"I try to shop at end of season so I get the best price," Home Depot customer Samuel Rubin said.

Over at Kroger, the outdoor furniture is already 50 percent off. One three-seat swing was $199.99. It's now on sale for $99.99. All clay pots are also half off.

"Suppliers order a lot of it, with the expectation of selling it and they don't, so it means great savings for everybody else," Super Saver Erin Libranda said.

Libranda says while some sale cycles are obvious, like after-season sales, other sales are not as well known.

For example, in January, Libranda says it's a great time to buy computers and linens.

In February, because it's a slow time for retailers, you can find rock bottom prices on electronics, housewares and furniture.

In March, you can find luggage for a steal. And who knew? It's also frozen food month, so expect to see a lot of deals in the frozen section of your grocery store.

"So those are the times to stock up on those things also," Libranda said.

In April, you can find deals on paint and wall paper that you normally won't find any other time of the year.

In May, spring cleaning supplies are up to 75 percent off, and it's also a great time to get special deals on home and auto maintenance.

In June, pianos and television sets are big-ticket items you can find at a much lower price.

And right now in July, "Anything back-to-school lunches, back-to-school supplies, back-to-school clothing will be coming up really soon," Libranda said.

At Kroger we found kids snack packs ten for ten. Also this month, Libranda says be sure to stock up on condiments like ketchup and mustard.

Next month in August, patio furniture and anything for your outdoor garden will be on sale.

In September, bicycles always go on sale right after the start of the school year.

In October, you can find the best prices of the year on cars, houses and fishing equipment.

In November, stock up on canned goods and in December. Party ware, party foods and baking goods are all heavily discounted.
