Houston fingerprint unit gets $2.3 million funding
HOUSTON
The Houston City Council on Wednesday approved an additional
$2.3 million for the program.
The lab came under scrutiny in 2009 when an audit showed that
some examiners were missing usable fingerprints on evidence. That
led to a review of fingerprint evidence in violent crime cases,
which found no wrong identification of suspects from 2004 to 2009.
The agreement extends a contract with Collinsville, Miss.,-based
consulting firm Ron Smith and Associates until next June.
