Deputy shoots knife-wielding suspect in Channelview

CHANNELVIEW, TX Shortly after 3:30pm, the Harris County Sheriff's Office says a deputy responded to a call of a suspicious person wielding a knife in the 700 block of Lakeside at Market. Witnesses reported the suspect threatened people in a car while standing in the street.

Authorities say when the deputy arrived, he saw a man with the knife in the street. The deputy got out of his vehicle and ordered the man to drop the knife. The suspect walked in circles around the deputy and moved towards him. The deputy shot at the suspect and hit him at least twice.

The suspect, Diego Castellanos, 51, was transported via LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. The deputy was not injured.

Castellanos has been charged with aggravated assault against a public servant.
