TXU helps elderly beat the heat

HOUSTON TXU hooked up with the ministries' Meals on Wheels program. TXU is giving elderly residents served by the program information on preventing dangerous heat-related emergencies and solutions to controlling their energy bill.

"We have special payment options for them throughout the summer. So we want to make sure they keep their air conditioning on and they can just take that summer bill and just average it out over about five or six months," said Kim Campbell, Sr. Manager of Customer Advocacy, TXU Energy.

TXU encouraged residents to set their air conditioners at a temperature around 78 degrees and to use ceiling or box fans. TXU also implemented a moratorium on disconnects for elderly customers during the summer.
