New poll shows Perry and White tied

HOUSTON The survey by North Carolina-based Public Policy Polling shows the former Houston mayor and incumbent governor deadlocked with 43 percentage points. The firm says White is gaining ground among independent voters.

Eyewitness News political consultant Dr. Richard Murray says the poll is a boost to the Democrat's campaign.

"These are pre-election polls, but you like to do pretty well in them because it helps you raise money and keeps the enthusiasm up among your troops," he said. "The Perry camp will probably dismiss this as an outlier, just saying every other poll shows we're ahead."

Just last week, a Rasmussen poll showed Perry leading 48 to 40.
