Inferno-like temperatures move into Texas

West Texas and the Panhandle will bake Friday with temperatures well exceeding 100 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Meanwhile, highs will verge or reach 100 degrees elsewhere in the state Friday afternoon under mostly clear skies. Southeast Texas will see a 30-40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Winds will be southerly 5-10 mph over West Texas and light and variable elsewhere.

Skies will remain mostly clear over West Texas on Friday night and early Saturday, but will become fair to partly cloudy elsewhere with a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms in southeast Texas. Lows will be in the upper 60s and low 70s, except for low 60s in the Panhandle and upper 70s in south Texas. Winds will be southerly 5-10 mph.
