Missouri City's texting while driving ban to start

MISSOURI CITY, TX

City council members passed an ordinance back in February, but it takes effect Tuesday. It prohibits drivers from texting, emailing or using apps while driving, even if they're stopped at a stop sign or traffic signal.

Violators can be fined up to $500.

The only exceptions are when there's an emergency, or when the driver is pulled over safely to the side of the road.

Drivers are still allowed to talk on a cell phone while driving.
